Volunteers come from many walks of life with varying skills
and abilities. A successful club, team or program is built on this network of volunteers who lend their knowledge, experience
and support. In honour of the outstanding sport volunteers in Zone 5, the Zone 5 Sports Recognition Program was developed.
Criteria:
• Recognition will be for contributions made within
the zone, at the community, zone, provincial or national level,
for a minimum of five years.
• Selections should be popular in the sense that
they reflect the publics aims and ideals and elicit widespread
input and support. They should be prestigious, recognizing excellence,
achievement and outstanding contributions.
Deadline for nominations: May 31 & October 31 annually
Categories of recognition include:
Coach - Awarded to the coach whose leadership promotes
sport and skill development through coaching and instruction.
Athlete/Team- Awarded to the athlete/team who demonstrates
positive leadership, promotes the ideals of fair play, and strives
for success.
Administrator - Awarded to a volunteer who promotes sport
by serving in an executive capacity.
Official - Awarded to the official who has volunteered
their time to promote and support sport development.
Builder - Awarded to an individual who has devoted
a minimum of 10 years to sport and who is a positive sport volunteer
role model. Open to a volunteer in any capacity in sport.
The Sports Council will accept nominations twice/year from
recreation boards, sport organizations, communities and schools in Zone 5. A committee will review nominations and successful nominees will be recognized at an event in their community.
The Sports Council plans to present 10-12 awards in Zone 5 annually.
